Centre Gardens
At Giraffe, sustainability is part of every day learning. Children grow veggies, herbs and flowers from seeds to bloom, developing a sense of achievement and connection to nature.
We plant native species to attract local birds and butterflies, creating a rich sensory experience in our garden space. Through hands-on gardening children learn to care for the environment and understand the beauty of growing something from the very beginning.
Recycled Materials
Our craft resources consist of recycled items such as magazines, cardboard rolls, yoghurt and milk caps, egg cartons and more!
All loving donated by our wonderful families and saved from our kitchen!
Without this program these items otherwise would end up in landfill but instead they are turned into beautiful artworks decorating our halls.
Community Engagement
Childcare centres work as an anchor point in the community – Giraffe Early Learning is no different!
We provide many avenues to connect our families to avenues of sustainability and charity by being collection points for the Nappy Collective and Bread Tags for Wheelchairs Australia. Without which many of these items would end up as waste.
FAQS
1. What if my child cries at drop off?
At Giraffe we understand the importance of a smooth transition. We offer a very generous orientation period of up to 3 weeks. During this period, you can come and visit the centre for up to 3 hours a day and stay with your child while they explore their new environment. This gradual transition makes it easier for you to get to know the staff, building trusting relationships and for your child to settle in smoothly into our Centre. This ensures that when you start care at the centre both parents and children feel
confident in their new environment.
2. How will you ensure my child builds an attachment with staff?
As a mum myself, I understand the importance of attachment. At Giraffe, our priority is the child. We have a “no cry policy” whereby children are not left to cry during play, mealtimes nor during sleep times. Our staff will stay with your child, whether it be to pat them to sleep, encourage them to eat or simply stay by their side during play to ensure your child feels safe in their environment where they can explore and grow with confidence.
3. What does a typical day look like for my child?
Your child’s day at Giraffe is designed to be a blend of learning and fun! They’ll enjoy a mix of structured activities, creative play, story time whether it be with books or puppets, music and outdoor time and many other activities. Their transitions to rest times are relaxed and nutritious snacks & meals are offered throughout the day. We make sure they’re engaged, learning, and having fun all day.
4. Can I stay updated on my child’s day?
Absolutely! If you have any concerns, you are welcome to call as many times as you like. We are happy to report back on any updates on your child if you feel concerned. We also offer a parent app where you’ll receive regular updates and photos of your child.
5. How do you prepare children for school?
Our focus is on nurturing your child’s social and emotional skills. We work very closely with the schools in our areas to ensure your child has the necessary skills to transition to school when the time comes. We tailor our school readiness programs to help each child grow at their own pace, giving them the best possible start for the next step in their educational journey.
6. Will my child have the same teacher all day?
Yes, and we know how important that is! At Giraffe, we understand the importance of continuity of staff for your child. This means your child builds a strong bond with their educators, and you get consistent feedback from the same person when you drop off and pick up. It’s a big part of the personal care we pride ourselves on. To accommodate this our staff, work long days and enjoy a day off during the week. Luckily, we have multiple permanent staff in our room to ensure there is always a familiar face to receive your child in the morning.
